Citrus County Florida is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, north of Hernando County and just south of Ocala Florida. Citrus County is ideally situated only a little over an hour from Orlando, Tampa and Gainesville.

These graceful, giant mammals, some as large as a small automobile, are attracted to the mild, spring fed waters of the Crystal River and the Homosassa River which flow into the Kings Bay and then on to the Gulf of Mexico. Dive shops and boat rentals offer manatee tours and manatee snorkel tours year round.

In Homosassa Springs you will discover the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park, a zoo-like environment of native Florida birds, snakes, fish and mammals. You can expect to see the Florida black bear, Florida panther, fox, otters, owls, eagles, flamingos, alligators, snook, tarpon, and yes manatees. The park contains a “fishbowl”, a glass structure to which you descend down stairs into a dry under sea environment where the fish and manatee swim around you.

On the east side of Citrus County you will find Inverness Florida, a rich historical city with a turn of the century “old courthouse” museum, down town square and quaint shops. Inverness is the county seat and as such a hub of local political and business activities.
